E. Elisabet Lahti

PhD, MSSc, MAPP

E. Elisabet Lahti is an awarded educator, international speaker, and the founder of SISU LAB that guides leaders to think deeply about excellence and build on their innate capacity for virtuous fortitude. With lineage and roots in Finnish Ostrobothnia and South Karelia, she has sought to live her life as testimony to sisu, a Finnish quality of deep determination and fortitude in the face of adversity.

Elisabet´s research on sisu involved her running and cycling 2400 km across New Zealand in 50 days and training martial arts in China to go all out for her quest on how humans overcome extreme challenges. Her everyday purpose, however, is to be a conduit for waking the primal spark (FI. kipinä) of life force everywhere in the world and together give our work, vision, and families our best. In her talk she shares what she’s learned from a decade of research and practice into sisu and forging self-mastery through everyday challenges.

Her work has been featured by The New Yorker, Business Insider, Scientific American, BBC, and Forbes. She´s given talks at Fortune500 companies such as Facebook and Salesforce, as well as TEDx. A collection of links to research on sisu are here and Elisabet´s book Gentle Power: A Revolution in How We Think, Lead, and Succeed Using the Finnish Art of Sisu is a manual to grow into the light not toward the dark side of our sisu, as we pursue our most long-held goals.
